TABLETS LEVOMYCETIN

INSTRUCTIONS

of using Levomycetin tablets for animals.

I. General information

1. Trade name of the preparation: Tablets of levomycetin (Tabulettae Laevomycetini).

International non-proprietary name: chloramphenicol.

2. Dosage form: tablets. The drug is a flat tablet of cylindrical shape with a transverse risk of white or white with a weak yellowish tinge of color. As active substance 1 tablet weighing 0.5 g contains: 0.25 g of levomycetin, 1 tablet weighing 1 g – 0.5 g of levomycetin.

3. II. Pharmacological properties

7. Pharmacotherapeutic group: chloramphenicol group antibiotic. Levomycetin tablets are an antimicrobial drug effective against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative microorganisms. Has a pronounced bacteriostatic effect, in high concentrations with respect to some strains shows a bactericidal effect. The mechanism of action is based on the ability to bind to the 50S subunit of bacterial ribosomes and inhibit the synthesis of proteins in bacterial cells.

To the action of levomycetin, strains of Escherichia coli, Shigella spp. (including Shigella dysenteria), Salmonella spp., Streptococcus spp. (including Streptococcus pneumoniae), Neisseria spp., Proteus spp., Ricketsia spp., Treponema spp. and Chlamydia trachomatis. In addition, the drug is effective in diseases caused by certain strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa.

The drug does not apply to fungi, protozoa and strains of Mycobacterium tuberculosis.

Stability of microorganisms to levomitsetin develops slowly.

After oral administration, the drug is rapidly absorbed in the gastrointestinal tract. Bioavailability with oral administration reaches 80%. Peak plasma concentrations are noted 1-3 hours after admission. After oral administration, therapeutically significant concentrations persist in the blood plasma for 4-6 hours, after parenteral administration, for 8-12 hours. The degree of binding of chlorpheniramine to plasma proteins is about 50%. Levomycetin penetrates the hematoplacental and blood-brain barrier, excreted in breast milk. Metabolized in the liver, excreted mainly by the kidneys, some part of the drug is excreted by the intestine. The elimination half-life reaches 1.5-3.5 hours.

Levomycetin tablets by the degree of exposure to the body are classified as moderately hazardous substances (hazard class 3 according to GOST 12.1.007).

III. The order of application

8. Levomycetin tablets are given orally with a therapeutic purpose for dyspepsia, gastroenteritis, salmonellosis, colibacillosis, bronchopneumonia, urinary tract infection in animals, with pasteurellosis and coccidiosis of birds.

9. The use of Levomycetin Tablets in diseases of the liver and kidneys during pregnancy and with increased individual sensitivity of animals is contraindicated.

10 Tablets are administered orally. Give 2-3 times a day with food, drinking water or on the root of the tongue in the following doses:

With severe vomiting, you can enter into the rectum in the form of rectal suppositories, increasing the dose by one and a half times. The dose and duration of treatment depend on the nature and severity of the disease, the age of the animal.

Duration of treatment 2 – 3 – 4 weeks or until normal temperature is maintained for 8-10 days. With a short treatment (6-9 days), relapses often occur, so it is preferable to have a longer treatment. When relapses occur, the treatment with levomycetin is repeated for 7-10 days. In most infections, giving the drug can be stopped two days after the temperature drop and the disappearance of all the symptoms of the disease.

11. The overdose phenomenon with Levomycetin Tablets was not revealed. When administered according to the above recommendations, an overdose is not possible.

12. The first use of the drug may be angioedema, allergic reactions in the form of rashes on the skin. In this case, the use of the drug is stopped and symptomatic treatment with the appointment of antihistamines.

13. If you miss one or more doses of the drug, the course of use should be resumed in the prescribed dosages and schedule of use.

14. Side effects: with prolonged use of inflated doses and in sensitive animals, vomiting, intestinal flatulence, liver damage, diarrhea, hyperemia, skin rashes, dermatitis, inflammation of the mucous membrane of the mouth, throat, genitalia and anus are possible.

15. It is not recommended to combine with nitrofuran and sulfonamide compounds because of the increased toxic effect, but for some indications it is allowed.

16. Slaughtering of animals for meat is allowed not earlier than 7 days after discontinuation of the use of the drug. Meat of livestock and poultry, forcedly killed before the expiration of this period, is used for feeding carnivores or for the production of meat-bone meal. It is forbidden to use for food purposes milk received from animals during treatment with Levomycetin Tablets and within 36 hours after discontinuation of the drug.

IV. Personal prevention measures

17. When working with Levomycetin Tablets, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety precautions prescribed when working with medications.

18. When working with the drug, it is forbidden to drink, smoke and eat. After working with the drug, wash your hands with soap and water. Empty containers from the preparation are forbidden to use for household purposes; it must be disposed of with household waste.

19. If the product gets on the skin and / or mucous membranes, they should be rinsed with plenty of running water. If accidentally swallowed, give a large amount of water to drink (4-5 glasses) and induce vomiting. In case of allergic reactions, you should immediately contact a medical institution (with instructions for the use of the drug and a label).
