INSTRUCTION
on the use of the drug “Virulon plus” in veterinary medicine

I. General information
1. Trade name of the drug: Virulon plus.
International nonproprietary name: enrofloxacin, ribavirin, trimethoprim.
2. Dosage form: solution for injection. As active ingredients in 1 ml, the drug contains 55 mg of enrofloxacin, 25 mg of ribavirin, 10 mg of trimethaprim and solvents. In appearance, the drug is a clear liquid from yellow to light brown.
Virulon plus is produced packaged in 10, 50 and 100 ml in glass bottles of appropriate capacity, capped with rubber stoppers, reinforced aluminum caps.
3. Shelf life of the drug under these conditions-2 years from the date of production, after opening the bottle-28 days. Do not use Virulon plus after its expiration date.
4. Store Virulon plus with caution in a dry, protected from light place at a temperature of 50C to 250C.
5. Virulon plus should be kept out of the reach of children.
6. Unused medicinal product is disposed of in accordance with the requirements of the legislation.
II. Pharmacological properties
7. Pharmacotherapeutic group of the medicinal product: anti-microbial agents in the combinations.
Enrofloxacin, which is part of the drug, belongs to the group of fluoroquinolones. It has a wide spectrum of antibacterial action, inhibits the growth and development of gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms, including E. coli, Haemophilus spp., Klebsiella spp., Bordetella spp., Clostridium spp., Erysipelotrix spp., Pasterella spp., Corynebacterium spp., Pseudomonas spp., Campylobacter spp., Bacteroides spp., and Mycoplasma spp. The mechanism of action of enrofloxacin is to inhibit the activity of the enzyme gyrase, affecting the replication of DNA helix in the nucleus of a bacterial cell.
Ribavirin is a broad-spectrum antiviral drug active against DNA and RNA viruses, inhibits the synthesis of nucleic acids and prevents the reproduction of viruses.
Trimethoprim as part of the drug inhibits folate reductase and prevents the formation of tetrahydrofolic acid. It is active against gram-positive and gram-negative microorganisms. After ingestion is rapidly absorbed. The maximum concentration is determined after 1-3 hours. High levels are created in the lungs and urinary tract. It is metabolized in the liver. Excreted by the kidneys.
Virulon plus is well and quickly absorbed from the injection site and penetrates into all organs and tissues of the body. The maximum concentration is achieved in 1-2 hours after administration and maintained for 6 hours. Excreted in the urine and bile.
III. The order of application
8. Virulon plus is used to treat young cattle, camels, pigs, sheep and goats, dogs and cats with infections of mixed etiology of respiratory (bronchopneumonia, pneumonia, atrophic rhinitis), digestive (gastroenteritis, enteritis, colitis), genitourinary (mastitis-metritis-agalactia syndrome, cystitis, pyelonephritis) systems, septicemia and other diseases caused by viruses sensitive to the components of the drug and bacteria.
9. The drug is contraindicated with increased individual sensitivity to its components, lactating animals and during pregnancy, dogs under the age of 12 months, with violations of the development of cartilage, lesions of the nervous system, accompanied by seizures.
10. Virulon plus is administered subcutaneously or intramuscularly once a day for 3 days in the following doses:
– calves, camels, lambs, goats, dogs and cats-subcutaneously at a dose of 1 ml per 10 kg of animal weight;
– pigs-intramuscularly at a dose of 1.5 ml per 10 kg of animal weight.
When a pain reaction occurs, the drug should be administered in an amount of not more than 5 ml in one place to large animals and not more than 2.5 ml to small animals.
11. Symptoms of overdose in the appointment of the drug in accordance with the order of application is not noted.
12. Features of Virulon plus action at the first reception or at its cancellation is not established.
13. You should avoid skipping the next dose of the drug, as this can lead to a decrease in therapeutic efficacy. In case of missing one dose of the drug is resumed in the same dosage and according to the same scheme.
14. Side effect. In some cases, the animal may transient dysfunction of the gastrointestinal tract. With prolonged use of the drug may develop thrombocytopenia.
15. Interaction with other medicinal products. Do not use Virulon plus drug in conjunction with chloramphenicol, macrolides, tetracycline, theophylline and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
16. Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed not earlier than 14 days after discontinuation of the drug. Meat of animals, forcibly killed before the expiration of the specified period, can be used for feeding carnivores.
IV. Personal prevention measures
17. When working with Virulon plus, you should follow the General rules of personal hygiene and safety provided for when working with drugs. At the end of work hands should be washed with warm water and soap.
18. When working with the drug, it is forbidden to drink, smoke and eat. After working with the drug, wash your hands with soap and water.
19. In case of contact with the skin and/or mucous membranes, it is recommended to wash them with plenty of running water. In case of accidental ingestion – give the victim to drink a large amount of water (4-5 glasses) and cause vomiting. In case of allergic reactions, you should immediately contact a medical institution (you should have the instructions for use of the drug and the label).
