INSTRUCTIONS of using streptopene for the treatment of bacterial diseases in farm animals 

(Organization-developer: “BioKhimPharm”, Raduzhny, Vladimir region) 

I. General information 

1. Trade name of the medicinal product: Streptopen.

International non-proprietary name: procaine benzylpenicillin, sulfate dihydrostreptomycin.

2. Dosage form: suspension for injection.

Streptopen contains procaine benzylpenicillin, dihydrostreptomycin sulfate and excipients.

3. Produce Streptopen prepacked in bottles of 10 ml, 50 ml, 100 ml.

4. Store the medicinal product in the manufacturer’s closed packaging in a dry place, protected from direct sunlight, away from food and feed, at temperatures from 50C to 250C.

Shelf life of the drug under the storage conditions – 2 years from the date of manufacture.

Do not use the product after the expiration date.

5. Streptopen should be stored out of the reach of children.

6. Dispose of unused medicinal product in accordance with legal requirements.

II. Pharmacological properties 

7. Procaine penicillin G and dihydrostreptomycin in combination act together and cumulatively.

Procaine penicillin G is a highly specialized penicillin of bactericidal action aimed at the neuralization of Gram-positive bacteria such as Campylobacter, Clostridium, Corynebacterium, Haemophilus, Listeria, Pasteurella, Penicillinase of Staphylococcus aureus.

Dihydrostreptomycin is an aminoglycoside of bactericidal action aimed at the neutralization of Gram-negative bacteria such as E. coli, Klebsiella, Pasteurella, Salmonella, Staphylococcus ..

Streptopen suspension for injection by the degree of exposure to the body is classified as a low-hazard substance (hazard class 4 according to GOST 12.1.007-76).

III. The order of application 

8. Streptopen is used with a therapeutic purpose for arthritis, inflammation of the mammary glands, gastrointestinal, respiratory and urinary diseases caused by susceptible to the effects of dihydrostreptomycin and procaine penicillin G by microorganisms.

9. Contraindication to the use of streptopen is the increased individual sensitivity of the animal to the active components of the drug. The drug should not be used together with tetracycline, levomycetin, macrolides and lincosamides.

10. Before use, the preparation should be shaken thoroughly until a uniform suspension is formed. The drug is administered intramuscularly in the following doses:

– cattle: 1.0 ml per 20 kg of body weight for 3 days;

– calves, goats, sheep, and pigs: 1.0 ml per 10 kg of body weight for 3 days. Do not administer more than 20 ml of cattle, more than 10 ml of pigs and more than 5 ml of calves, goats and sheep in one injection site.

11. A single dose of a large dose of the drug can lead to shivering, impaired coordination, increased temperature.

12. Features of the drug during its first use and when it is canceled is not established.

13. If you miss one or more doses of the drug, the course of use should be resumed in the prescribed dosages and schedule of use.

14. When using Streptopen in accordance with this instruction, no side effects and complications have been identified.

15. The use of streptopen does not exclude the use of other drugs.

16. Livestock products after the use of Streptopen are used:

after 40 days after the last administration.

– Milk 3 days after the last injection.

IV. Personal prevention measures 

17. When working with Streptopen, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety techniques provided for working with medicines. At the end of work, hands should be washed with warm water and soap.

18. If the medicinal product is accidentally contacted with the skin or mucous membranes of the eye, they must be rinsed with plenty of water. In case of accidental administration of the drug to a person, the injection site must be treated with 70% ethanol, contact a medical institution and inform the doctor about it.

Empty vials from a medicinal product are forbidden to use for household purposes, they are subject to recycling with household waste.

19. There is no specific antidote. If necessary, symptomatic therapy is carried out: general supportive therapy, observation and monitoring of the function of vital organs and systems. Dialysis is possible.
