INSTRUCTIONS of using Rikol for the prevention and treatment of endometritis of cows

(Organization-developer: “BioKhimPharm”, Vladimir region, Raduzhny town)

I. General information

1. Trade name of the drug: Ricolum.

International nonproprietary name: rifampicin, colistin, carbacholin.

2. Dosage form: foaming tablets for intrauterine administration. The drug in Ricol as active ingredients contains rifampicin, colistin, and carbacholin, as well as a foaming base.

The drug is a tablet from red-orange to dark red.

3. Release the drug Rikol packaged in foil with a thermo-lacquer or in plastic bags with zip-loсk (influenza) lock on 1 tablet, which are placed in cans of polymer material of 20 pieces.

Each package is labeled with the organization of the manufacturer, its address and trademark, the name, purpose, dosage form, the name and content of the active ingredients, the amount of the preparation in the package, the number of packages in the box, the inscriptions “For veterinary medicine”, numbers, series, dates of manufacture , shelf life, storage conditions, state registration number, bar code, information on the confirmation of compliance, designation of the technical specification.

Shelf life of the drug in a sealed package, subject to storage conditions – 2 years from the date of manufacture. Do not use the product after the expiration date.

4. Store the medicinal product in the manufacturer’s closed packaging with precaution, in a dark place at a temperature of 5 ° C to 250 ° C.

5. Rikol should be kept out of the reach of children.

6. Dispose of unused product in accordance with legal requirements.


II. Pharmacological properties

7. Pharmacotherapeutic group: antimicrobial drugs in combinations.

Rifampicin, which is part of the drug, has a bactericidal effect against many gram-positive, as well as some Gram-negative microorganisms.

Colistin is active against gram-negative bacteria: salmonella, shigella, pasteurella, intestinal and pseudomonas aeruginosa, and protozoa and fungi of the genus Candida.

Carbacholin increases the tone of the musculature of the uterus.

The drug has good bioavailability, it is non-toxic. According to GOST 12.1.007 the preparation belongs to the 4th class of danger – substances that are moderately hazardous.


III. The order of application

8. Rikol is used for the prevention and treatment of inflammation of the uterus of cows after complicated and pathological births, retention of the afterbirth, acute postpartum catarrhal, purulent and chronic endometritis, pyometritis, caesarean section.

9. Rikol is contraindicated in pregnant and hypersensitive to its constituent components (rifampicin, colistin, carbacholin) to animals.

10. Before the introduction of the drug, the genital organs and the tail root are sanitized.

Tablets are injected through the cervical canal into its cavity with the help of a forceps or with a hand clad in a disposable polyethylene glove. In case of increased dryness of the uterus, the amount of intrauterine fluid can be increased by introducing into the uterus 150 – 200 ml of sterile saline for normal foaming.

With the preventive purpose the drug is applied twice with an interval of 48 hours for 1 tablet.

With the therapeutic purpose of Rikol injected every 24 hours with at least a three-fold repetition of 1 – 2 tablets until recovery.

11. Symptoms of overdose when using the drug are not established.

12. Features of the drug at the beginning of application or when it was abolished is not revealed.

13. Failure to comply with the recommended interval with repeated administration of the drug may lead to a decrease in its effectiveness. If you skip the next dose of the drug, its use is resumed as soon as possible in the same dosage and according to the same scheme.

14. Adverse events and complications in the appointment of Ricol in accordance with the instruction is not established.

15. The drug is compatible with other medicines.

16. Slaughter of animals for meat is allowed no earlier than 3 days after the end of the use of the medicinal product. The meat of animals that have been killed before the specified time, can be used for feeding carnivores. Milk for food purposes is allowed to use no earlier than 3 days after the last administration of the drug. Milk, obtained from cows earlier than this period, is used in animal feed after heat treatment.


IV. Personal prevention measures

17. When working with Ricol, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety, provided for when working with medicines.

18. Do not drink, smoke or eat while working with a medicine. After work, you should wash your hands with warm water and soap.

19. If Ricol hits mucous membranes or skin, rinse with clean water and, if necessary, consult a doctor.
