IODOSEPT

 

INSTRUCTIONS

of using Iodosept as an antiseptic and anti-inflammatory agent for the prevention and treatment of vulvitis, cervicitis, postpartum acute, chronic endometritis and clinical mastitis in animals 

(Organization-developer: “BioKhimPharm”, Raduzhny, Vladimir region). 

I. General information 

1. Trade name of the medicinal preparation: Iodosept.

International non-proprietary name: potassium iodide, bismuth salts, prednisolone.

2. Dosage form: topical solution.

The medicinal preparation as active substances contains potassium iodide, bismuth subnitrate and prednisolone in a hydrophilic base.

Iodosept is produced in the form of aerosol cans with spray heads and protective caps (aerosol form) complete with catheter caps for intrauterine and intracisternal administration, Janet syringes equipped with a polystyrene pipette for intrauterine injection, plastic syringes for intracisternal administration and glass vials, corked with rubber stoppers and rolled with aluminum caps, as well as in bottles made of polymeric material with a screw cap.

3. Shelf life of the medicinal product under the conditions of storage in closed containers is 1 year from the date of manufacture. Do not use Jodosept after the expiration date.

4. Store the drug in the manufacturer’s closed container in a dry, dark place at a temperature of 50C to 250C.

5. Iodosept should be kept out of the reach of children.

6. Dispose of unused product with expired shelf life in accordance with legal requirements.

II. Pharmacological properties 

7. Pharmacotherapeutic group of the drug: combined antibacterial drugs.

Iodide ions cause a pronounced bactericidal and bacteriostatic effect against a wide range of microorganisms – pathogens of gynecological diseases and mastitis of bacterial and fungal etiology. It is active against Esherihia, Pseudomonas, Proteus, Candida, Aspergillus, Penicillium, Malassezia, Trichophyton, Microsporum, Staphylococcus, Streptococcus and Mikoplazma. Does not create resistance in pathogenic microflora. Has a general stimulating effect on the immune system.

Bismuth in the composition of Iodosept has a powerful anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and astringent action in the pathological focus.

Prednisolone has an anti-inflammatory and weak analgesic effect.

The hydrophilic base of the preparation is physiologically indifferent, removes the irritating effect of the active components on the mucous membranes of the glandular epithelium of the endometrium and the mammary gland; adsorbs and neutralizes microbial and tissue toxins.

The consistency of the dosage form of Iodosept promotes its uniform distribution along the mucous membrane of the affected organ, the transport of active components into the pathological focus and the maximum contact of the active components in the lesion site.

III. The order of application 

8. Iodosept used intrauterine cows, mares, sows, ewes and goats for the prevention and treatment of vulvitis, cervicitis, postpartum acute and chronic endometritis, and also intracisternal for the treatment of clinical mastitis in farm animals.

9. Contraindication to the use of Iodosept is an individual hypersensitivity to its components.

10. Before administration, the preparation is heated to 37 ° C to 39 ° C.

In the treatment of endometritis, the uterine cavity is released from exudate by rectal massage.

For the introduction of the preparation, pre-packaged in Janet’s syringes, a catheter is attached to the syringe using a special nozzle, the cervix is ​​grasped by hand through the rectum and the contents of the syringe are injected to cows, mares at a dose of 100 cm³ (contents of 1 syringe), sows, ewes and goats – 50 cm³ (0.5 syringe).

To use the drug in an aerosol canister, a spray head with a catheter is placed on the latter, the hand of the uterus is grasped by the hand through the rectum and, holding the aerosol container vertically, the contents are introduced into the uterine cavity to the cows, the mares – 100 g (the contents of one bottle); sows and ewes – 50 grams (0.5 bottles).

In most cases, a single application is sufficient. In severe cases, the drug is recommended to be applied 2-3-fold with an interval of 7 days.

For the treatment of mastitis, the drug is administered intracisternally after milking. Before using the preparation, the contents of the patient quarter of the udder are dispensed into a separate bowl and disposed of, the nipple is disinfected with 70% alcohol.

When using a syringe tube, the cannula is pressed tightly against the opening of the teat canal, fixed firmly by the fingers and the drug is gently applied to the plunger. The dose of administration to cows and mares is 20 cm³ (contents of two syringes), ewes and goats – 10 cm³ (contents of 1 syringe).

To use the drug in the aerosol can from the valve device, remove the cap, put on the catheter nozzle, which is injected into the teat canal. Cows and mares the drug is injected by pressing the valve device for 5-6 seconds, ewes and goats – for 2-3 seconds, which ensures the receipt of the required dose of the drug in the udder.

After the introduction, a light nipple massage is performed from the bottom up.

The drug is administered at intervals of 24 hours (after each milking) 3-4 times. If necessary, the treatment of animals is repeated after 7-10 days.

The drug, packaged in vials, is injected with appropriate glass or disposable syringes through special catheters, similarly to the methods described above.

11. Symptoms of overdose with the use of the drug in accordance with this instruction is not established.

12. Features of the action at the beginning of the application of Jodosept or when it was abolished is not revealed.

13. Failure to comply with the recommended interval with repeated administration of the drug may lead to a decrease in its effectiveness. If you skip the next dose of the drug, its use is resumed as soon as possible in the same dosage and according to the same scheme.

14. The use of Iodosept does not exclude the use of other drugs for specific, pathogenetic and symptomatic therapy.

15. Along with the drug intrauterine and intracisternal, it is not possible to administer drugs that have an alkaline reaction.

16. Milk from healthy udder quarters is used for food without restrictions, and from patients – after complete disappearance of signs of mastitis, confirmed by venerable tests.

Meat of slaughter animals using the drug is used without restrictions.

IV. Personal prevention measures 

17. When working with Iodosept, you should follow the general rules of personal hygiene and safety, provided for when working with medications.

18. When working with the drug, it is forbidden to drink, smoke and eat. After working with the drug, wash your hands with soap and water.

19. In case of accidental ingestion of the drug on the skin or mucous membranes, it must be rinsed with running water and soap. In case of allergic reactions and accidental ingestion, immediately contact a health care facility (with instructions for use of the drug or label).
